Music | Singled Out

2 Mins read

Future soul, grimey bangers, hip-hop allstars and blissed-out indie. Artefact writers have got this week’s new releases and online premieres covered.

Young & Sick – Heartache Fetish (Ta-ku Rework)

Aussie beatsmith Ta-ku flips Young & Sick‘s future soul into something much deeper, with pitched vocals and chopped drums permeating a bed of sparse, melancholic chords. Hard to decide whether this functions best as break-up music or baby-making music – either way, it’s stunning.

Young & Sick’s Ghost Fetish remix EP is released November 4, via Harvest Records.

Murlo & Wildlife! – Control

Swiss producer Wildlife! joins forces with UK futurist Murlo on this hybrid, grimey club banger. All genre definitions aside, I don’t know whether to storm around town in trackie bottoms and my hood up like it’s 2003 or go to a club to persistently request the resident DJ to play this brand new floor-filler.

Control is available now, via Man Recordings.

Big K.R.I.T ft. Raphael Saadiq – Soul Food

Big K.R.I.T delivers words of wisdom on Soul Food, another drop from his forthcoming album Cadillactica. Raphael Saadiq’s vocals compliment K.R.I.T’s cleverly written, meaningful lyrics, and if this is anything to go by, then the album will surely be worth a listen.

Cadillactica is released November 11, via Def Jam.

David Douglas feat. Petter Carlsen – Sweet Moonflower (Eskmo Remix)

Eskmo’s signature ethereal tones and floating melodies ring true on this remix of David Douglas and Petter Carlsen’s Sweet Moonflower. More of a dance hit than some of his previous minimalistic work, the sounds ebb and flow over Carlsen’s light, echoing Norwegian accent. A mix of jumping bass and orchestral interludes make this one for a chilled autumn evening – kick back, detune your senses and sink your teeth into the vibes.

David Douglas’ Moon Observations (The Remixes) EP is available now, via Atomnation.

Nicki Minaj feat. Drake, Lil Wayne & Chris Brown – Only

Four musical powerhouses come together for the third single off Nicki Minaj’s upcoming LP The Pinkprint. Produced by Dr. Luke, this trap-leaning, bass-heavy track features Minaj dispelling mythical sexual encounters with label mate Drake and YMCMB boss Lil Wayne. In between the lustful and playful verses of Drake and Wayne, Chris Brown delivers a catchy and club-orientated chorus.

Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint is released November 24, via Young Money Cash Money.

Whyte Horses – Morning Clouds

It’s hard to find out much about Manchester’s Whyte Horses, other than that they spent three months recording in the Italian countryside, which is evident. Morning Clouds is a beautiful track, a blissful wash of warm guitars and even warmer vocals. Not a million miles away from Camera Obscura, circa 2001, but with elements of ’80s indiepop and ’60s psychedelia, all beautifully woven together.

Morning Clouds is available now, via CRC Music.
