“The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club.”

Writer Chuck Palahniuk has broken his own rule by releasing a six-page preview of the graphic novel sequel to his seminal 1996 work.

The original novel’s unnamed narrator is back and calling himself Sebastian. Everyday life has ground him down and he now has a dependence on prescription drugs, a bored wife and a destructive son.

“Look at him. He calls himself Sebastian these days. Ten years ago, he was destined to be another Alexander the Great. A new Genghis Khan. But Sebastian…”

The preview reveals that Sebastian is now married to Marla Singer, whose illustrations happen to look quite similar to Helena Bonham Carter, who played the dissolute character in the hit 1999 film based on the novel.

“Today is my ninth wedding anniversary, but I could swear I’ve been married for 60 years,” Sebastian says, adding: “I’m so tired of dieting and colouring my hair.”

The publisher has promised that the sequel will finally reveal what happened to the character Tyler Durden (played by Brad Pitt in the movie) and adds: “some imaginary friends never go away… Ten years after starting Project Mayhem, he lives a mundane life. A kid, a wife, pills to keep his destiny at bay. But it won’t last long; the wife has seen to that. The time has come… Rize or Die.”

The first six pages of Palahniuk’s graphic novel sequel were published by Playboy and picks up the story ten years after the first novel from 1996. The illustrations are by artist Cameron Stewart, and the novel will be published by Dark Horse Comics on May 27.
