Being a young student living in South London, I decided I should make the most of it, explore the city, and most of all, the restaurants. I made it a goal to explore and discover new and unique places within South London.
As I knew I was starting university in Elephant and Castle, I took the train and found myself in Camberwell, which is where I spotted a small spot called Brunchies. It has a black exterior which intrigued me so I decided to try the place out. As soon as I stepped in I was pleasantly greeted with Latin American music and accommodating, welcoming staff. The interior had a rustic but modern style and I was also impressed by the generous amount of seating.
I was given a lunch menu which consisted of a wide range of food which appealed to all tastes. From burgers and steak to classic Latin American cuisine, varying from churrasco to quesadillas, I ordered the chicken chimichurri which consisted of a grilled chicken breast flavoured in their delicious homemade South American chimichurri sauce served with rice and salad. I normally am quite a selective eater but this dish broadened my view on trying and discovering different cultural dishes, and I was left delightfully full and wanting to try more. My meal came to around £15 which is perfect for a student like me wanting to save money.
Later that day I got home and shared my experience with my sister who said she needed to try it out, so a few weeks later I took her and it was a plus for serving vegan dishes as well, she ordered the vegan burger and I, the chicken chimichurri burger. The second time was just as enjoyable.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this restaurant and definitely would describe it as a ‘hidden gem’, and would definitely recommend for anyone to try when in the area.
