Artefact explores how diversity is celebrated within visual arts by visiting ‘Resilience’ and UAL’s own, ‘Lost and Found’, exhibitions.
Creatives detail the benefit of visual art in communicating, the need for inclusivity in the arts, and how traditional galleries should celebrate diversity beyond Black History Month.
Artists Danial Oduntan and Canaan Brown talk to Artefact about their featured pieces, as well as the curator of ‘Lost and Found’, Sharon Bertram.
“I see Black History Month as something which needs to be recontextualised. It creates this temporary pop-up where we place it in a space and say, ‘Hey focus on this, and when it’s done you don’t need to focus on it anymore.’ This needs to change,” says Daniel Oduntan
