Padre

Every Sunday is a family day for us.  It felt like fate that my mum was off from work and it was a beautiful day in London, which is a miracle from the bipolar weather.

As we sat on the train still trying to figure out our destination, we realised that we had never visited Borough Market as a family. As we stepped off the train at London Bridge, we found ourselves moving with a sea of people strolling in the same direction. The closer we got, the bustling crowd at the food market, the stronger the aroma of freshly baked bread, sizzling meats, and aromatic spices in the fresh air. The market was bustling with locals eagerly sampling food, and vendors passionately calling out their specials. Despite the chaos, every staff member we encountered was warm and welcoming.

We took our time circling the market to satisfy our cravings, and in the process, my mum and my sister settled by purchasing Italian cuisine. However, I was still in the indecisive stage till the minimalistic branding of Padre, a Mexican street food stall, beside the Italian food stall caught my attention.

I ordered their soft taco with pork, vegetables, and sour cream with lime. My taco cost between £7 and £10 which is the standard price for central London, and given the quality and portion size, it felt worth every penny. The crispy pork combined with the fresh toppings made for a rich and satisfying bite. If I had more room, I would have loved to try their beef and vegetarian, and their cocktail slushy. The combination of lime, sour cream, and pork with the taco shell became a premium package in my cravings. I’ve ordered tacos before, but this was something memorable. The crunch of the perfectly cooked pork paired with the tangy lime and the creamy smoothness of the sour cream. The contrast between the soft taco shell and the crispy filling made every bite even more satisfying, and it was a perfect day because we sat on the benches down the street during the sunny day.

This experience made me realise that food trips are worth it when you’re with the right people because it’s not just about the flavours you taste, but the memories you create and the joy of sharing something special.
