Reel memories: Restoring the past through film

1 Mins read

We explore the art of film restoration, from Home Movie Day to R3store Studios, preserving the past for future generations.

In this video, Artefact explores the world of film restoration and the crucial role it plays in preserving cinematic history, particularly in the realm of home movies.

Each year the Cinema Museum hosts the annual Home Movie Day, where professionals and amateurs and professionals gather to celebrate and share their passion for old film, particularly home movies.

Through an interview with Home Movie Day’s event organiser, Louise Pankhurst, we explore the importance of keeping these personal and historical films alive.

We also visit R3store Studios, a London-based organisation, specialising in film restoration, where we dive into the technical and ethical aspects of restoring old films, exploring how these films are preserved whilst ensuring they remain faithful to the director’s original vision.

This video package uncovers the significance of film restoration, and the work involved to ensure that the rich history of film, especially home movies, is never lost.
